Meet the Director
I am Sara Wachter, the Director of Duchesne Preschool. I have the privilege of guiding the dedicated teachers who nurture, motivate, challenge and support the children who attend Duchesne Preschool. In accordance with the philosophy set forth by our foundress, Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat, their role is to love the children unconditionally, just as a parent would, and to guide them not only academically, but also socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually. I am also here to help the parents, to support them, answer questions and guide them on their journey through parenting a young child. But I think my favorite part of this job is interacting every day with the little ones who come here to play, learn, explore, pray and grow.
My “assistant”, Duffy, is a certified therapy dog and Edu-pup, who comes to school every day. He is a Bichon Frisé, who does not shed or have dander, so he is not an allergen for the children. He is a huge help for children who are having a separation issue, or who are just sad or upset for some reason. He also gets to visit the classrooms and play on the soccer field with the children.
In the past I taught Kindergarten and First Grade for 16 years and hold a Master’s Degree in Education Administration. I was thrilled to “come home” to Duchesne and establish the preschool program in 1998. I am an alum of Duchesne Academy Class of 1979, but my family connections to Duchesne started even before I was born. As a very small child, I remember running the halls of Duchesne when we came to visit my great aunt, “Mother Wachter” a Sacred Heart nun who resided and taught at Duchesne. My grandmother, mom, aunts, sisters, cousins, and nieces all attended Duchesne Academy and/or Duchesne College. I thank God every day that He led me back home to Duchesne!
