Children of Mary
September 2023
Dear Members and Potential Members of the Children of Mary of the Sacred Heart,
Lynn, Rita, and Trisha all hope everyone had a refreshing summer break. For those who joined us last year, it was a success due to your in-person and virtual participation and we are so very grateful. For those considering membership this year, we hope you will join this wonderful group of spiritual women who meet at Duchesne every First Friday from October through May (excluding January) for a speaker and mass, as founded by St. Madeleine Sophie Barat in the 1830’s. It is especially exciting to spend this time having mass in our newly restored chapel.
This year, we will begin with Mass in the Chapel at 9:30 am CST. Our speakers will then begin at 10:15 am CST and conclude by 11:15 am. Please note our October meeting will begin with the speaker so that we can then enjoy mass with time to reflect on the beautiful Chapel, and the April Morning of Reflection will last until approximately Noon as a mini retreat. Both mass and speakers will be available via Zoom for those unable to come in person.
Our annual dues will be $40.00. This year Children of Mary will contribute towards travel costs for the RSCJ we bring in and use dues to pay the priests a stipend. Aside from costs for speakers and priests, all other funds go towards the Children of Mary scholarship fund. We wish to express gratitude to our inactive members who continue to show interest and support the sodality through their continued membership.
Please mail your check (made out to Children of Mary) and dues form to:
Treasurer Rita Henry at 6921 Cuming Street, Omaha, NE 68132
*or register online at www.duchesneacademy.org under the Alumnae page.
As always, alum status is not necessary for membership or in order to receive the Children of Mary medal. To receive a medal, as is Children of Mary tradition, your attendance at six program presentations is required and they need not be consecutive. We will bless and present medals at our first and/or last meetings of the year, so please contact Trisha Meehan (tmeehan@duchesneacademy.org or 402.810.9960) if you would like to order a medal.
We look forward to sharing this upcoming year of spiritual growth and deepening our love for the Sacred Heart of Jesus and our connection with each other as Saint Madeleine Sophie desired.
In the Heart,
Lynn deMayo, President Rita Henry, Treasurer Trisha Meehan, Co-Moderator
